Harry Potter 6

I just watched Harry Potter 6 with Xiaomei today.

On the whole, I think the movie was very much worth watching, esp with pleasant company like my Xiaomei. The cinematics are excellent and realistic, exactly in cohesion with what I expected the characters and settings to be like. The cinematics are Matrix style, rather than Bollywood style, which is what I prefer.

Certain points are worth particular mention.

The graphicalization of Apparition is good, and the transition between wizarding world and Muggle world is flawless. The high speed of Apparition is realistic in its own way and gives us the assurance that this is indeed the way it should appear to be, and feel to Harry.

The costumes of Hermione and Luna are exactly as imagined. Hermione is usually beautiful in a simple way, elegant in just about anything, and her party wear is of course stunning. Luna on the other hand, is outlandish in a positive way. Harry used the word "cool" to describe her when he brought her to Slughorn's party, and I think there is no better word.

There was a lavish amount of humour, especially romantic humour. Particularly worth mention was probably Hermione's "The party was boring, but I think Harry enjoyed dessert." regarding Ginny's accidental appearance in the Slug Club dinner. Ron's sequences with Lavender and the Amortentia (Love Potion) incident was also greatly exaggerated, though I must say to good effect. Lavender's perceived bimbo attitude was also comical, esp with regards to the hospital scene.

There were a lot of romantic scenes, including some that are added in that are not from the original story. In particular, there were a lot of Harry and Ginny scenes, including places where Ginny did not appear for the actual story. Some may think that this is excessive; I think it is rine, even sweet, to put them in.

All in all, I think the movie was good and worth it, and a great change from the previous movies. I am most hoping for Book 7, for the cinematics will definitely be much better.
