It is nearing the end of the year. Yes, by the uni calendar this is the end of the year, not the start or the middle, and sub com nite is here again.
This year's sub com nite started off with the usual bonding. For my OG it was not really necessary, for we all already know each other and have gone past the stage where we can't talk to each other yet. I am glad that several powerhouses are in my OG, people who can really play, crazily.
The highlight of the sub com nite, the skit, this year was exceptionally creative and impressive. The script, written by some of the most happening people in Hall, is one that borders on the fantastic. The story is about two clans, one led by Nabei and Pompomchai, the other led by Jibei and Chaichaipom. They used to be enemies until their leaders were killed by the green monsters. The two clans then united and eventually defeated the green monster together. Some of the segments deserve particular mention.
Right at the start, this was what Pompomchai said, "Eh Nabei, we have been fighting against those Jibei for a long time already." "Eh nabei, u see. Got stars from the sky." "Eh nabei v heavy leh." The idea being so brilliant, not just in the fact the script sounds suspiciously like Hokkien, but in the circumstances that the Hokkien sound alike that sounds so suspiciously wrong fits perfectly into the Singlish context. This combined with the fact that the actress who acted as Pompomchai is a sporting natural gift who can swear in a perfectly natural and elegant tone adds to the laughter. As someone who respects girls who dare to swear, I think this is simply elegant. For those who do not appreciate vulgarities, take it as a joke to laugh about.
Jayzer slaps Pompomchai, hard. It can be heard audibly from the audience, really. And Pompomchai did not shout.
I like the way the Chais distract the CGLs and the AGLs came out right on cue to give each of them a tight slap. This illustrates the perfect balance between guy and girl, and shows how they play different, yet similar roles in Hall life. Indeed, girls underestimate their importance in protecting guys in spirit form, they do it, all the time, they just dun realize it.
Finally, the ending, with the oracle officer coming out to embrace the Queen Mother, is an artistic finishing touch, totally expected yet totally fresh, and worthy of this fine performance.
All in all, I am v glad of my OG posting. The skit was totally well prepared and well written, and I believe the freshies will really laugh about it.
